Role Models

I think it’s really good to have role models. My mother is my best role model, always. I love her to death, and if I could be just like her, I would be happy.

But sometimes it’s also good to have famous role models too–since you can romanticize their life a little bit, and it’s fun.

My first role model was Shannon Hale.

I wanted to be her when I grew up (not in a freaky way): a mom and a writer and an all-together awesome person. I was a Shannon Hale fan, going to her signings, reading all her books, joining her fan forum.

While Shannon is still awesome, I don’t want a career as a best-selling author anymore. I changed–grew-up a little bit, my priorities switched around, I have different interests, etc.

Right now, I’ve been following the Pioneer Woman–Ree Drummond is so awesome. She’s a better fit for a role model at this time in my life, when I’m still learning how to cook, how to take photographs, how to make fun of myself, how to be a mother–and, quite probably, how to move out into the middle of nowhere in the near future, since Dillon is applying for jobs that are in the rural areas of the world.

It just helps me see myself in a better light, helps me to keep track of my goals, helps me figure out what I really want. And I don’t just have one role model, I have a whole slew of them: my sisters, some of my neighbors, in-laws, etc., etc.

P.S.: I think I want to have red hair when I grow up. My mom has red hair. Shannon Hale has red hair. Ree Drummond has red hair. There is a definite trend.
